Rolling the Dice

Learn the concept, see how it is used in the simulation, and understand what the result tells you as the Project Manager.

Production dice create uncertainty in the simulation. Your resource decision determines who gets an opportunity to produce; the dice determine the actual quantity generated by those resources.

Week 1 team with production dice results
Production rolls: select Roll Production for each working resource. After the roll, the card shows the production values and the resource total.

Normal production

Each working resource rolls the standard production dice shown on the resource card. The resource total contributes to the week's gross production.

Overtime production

From Week 2, a resource with overtime authorised receives one additional production roll. That roll is added to the resource's normal production result.

Then the PM quality adjustment is applied

The total shown by the resource dice is not necessarily the final accepted project progress. The Project Manager quality adjustment can remove defective objects or add accepted PM contribution.

Weekly accepted productionResource Production + PM Quality AdjustmentFor example, 26 resource objects with PM −3 gives 23 accepted objects.
Why randomness matters

Capacity creates opportunity, not certainty. You may spend more on optional resources or overtime and still receive a modest production roll. That uncertainty is part of the project-management challenge.
